Sunless Tanning

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

One out of 5 people will have skin cancer in their life time.  For this reason we should take control of our health when we can.  Sunless tanners are a perfect solution.

The sunless tanners usually go on clear. You can typically see results over an hour. Full color is expected after 24 hours. Some of these products contain bronzers or tint that show immediate color, but these tend to fade if it gets wet or you sweat.

Many people opt for the at home products and apply to the main areas, such as legs, arms and face. For an all over glow you can go to a salon and get your entire body misted for an all over tan.

The next questions is if these tanners are safe. The Food and Drug Administration has deemed them safe for use on the skin. No studies have been done to find out the risks if they are inhaled or ingested.

It is probably best to eliminate these possible hazards. Try not to inhale the fumes if using a spray. If the products are applied to the face avoid the eyes and lips. If doing a all over tan at a salon, it may be a good idea to wear goggles and hold your breath during the application.

A Dental Nightmare

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Good dental care is very important to ones health. Dental care can be rather expensive so it is important to get routine care so that tooth decay is kept at a manageable condition. Regular cleaning can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

Some health insurance plans include dental insurance as well. If your plan does not you can find many carriers that provide stand alone dental plans. A good dental insurance plan can help you offset some of the dental expense. Many even offer free dental cleaning twice a year.

Let me give an example of just how much dental cost can effect you. This is a story of a friend, Vicky. Vicky had never had a lot of dental care growing up other then a tooth brush and toothpaste. When she got into her 30’s she begin to experience some tooth aches and gum swelling.

Vicky did not have dental insurance. She scheduled an appointment with a local dentist. The dentist did a full exam and x-rays which cost her $250. It was found that Vicky needed a lot of work. Not only did she have gum disease, but she had a lot of tooth decay also.
